Stuff I’ve Heard

This week’s Monday Listicles topic over at The Good Life is quotations – but before I list some of my favorite quotes, I have the honor of telling you who is picking next week’s Listicles topic: me!

Yay!

I am big huge fan of Stasha’s Listicles – her weekly link-up gives my blog a great starting point each week, as well as a little bit of direction and inspiration – and through it I’ve met all kinds of supportive bloggers. I’m an even bigger fan of Stasha herself, because she is supportive, a great mom, and kind (and a talented photographer…have you seen her new business, Stasha B. Photography?)

So for next week’s Listicles…

<insert drum-roll here…>

…the topic is: your Family Tree.

I’m a writer, so I love excavating the past and finding out about who my relatives were. I love hearing about other people’s family histories, and what they’ve uncovered. So break the skeletons out of your family closet, or the trophies, or whatever interesting tidbits you’ve learned, or secrets you’ve uncovered about any of your near or distant ancestors, and put ‘em in next week’s Listicle! (-:

Without further delay, here are some really good quotes I’ve heard recently that are worthy enough to pass along.

Further Delay: On the topic of quotations, the most popular site on my blog – Stuff Ella Says – has been updated with lots of new wisdom from my six-year-old who is channeling her inner granny, so check it out.

10 Good Quotes I’ve Heard Recently

“In the happiest of our childhood memories, our parents were happy, too.”
- Robert Brault

“Piss off, Thirties. I have a better decade waiting for me.”
Mocha Momma via Twitter

“Empathy is the glue that holds society together.”
- I heard this on BBC radio. It sort of stopped me in my tracks.

“Life is just a chance to grow a soul.”
- A. Powell Davies via Twitter

“You matter.”
- Your Pocket Guru via Twitter

“My child told me I was old – and she was new.”
- Checking Pockets via Twitter

“Mommy, do you remember the 1906 earthquake?”
- My daughter, Fiona

Fiona

My response: “I may be old compared to you, but I’m not *that* old!”

My Irish-born husband, on hearing that my friend’s cheating ex had been diagnosed with borderline personality and is narcissistic:

“In America you can diagnose him all you want, but in my country he’s just an asshole.”

My husband, on seeing me standing at the fridge eating a raw Oscar Meyer hot dog and dipping it into a jar of mayonnaise:
“You have few revolting habits, but this is one of them.”
My Irishman
“So do we just keep on doing this thing over and over again – you know, being born, then dying, then going back to God?”
- My daughter, Ella

  11. I love your list. The 1st one on childhood memories is so true. I can just imagine your expression hearing Fiona’s earthquake question. Ella’s profound wisdom never ceases to amaze. Your husband is an absolute riot, and you- what I love about you is your untethered honesty and self-deprecating humor. We all do those things, but not many of us would divulge. May I tag along with Cookie’s Mom to your house?

  26. Wow, what a huge question your daughter asked you!

Family Tree, hu? Hmmm… My grandmother is way into genealogy, but I don’t know about any special tidbits about our ancestors. I think all she knows is the actual lineage of our family, names and dates and such.

    Hmmm…
