Ella with her surfing instructor. The way he lifted her up on that board over the waves, time and time again, day after day, was beyond adorable. So I took this shot and it captured summer 2012 for us.

Adorable! But it was cold? Wow, I would have thought it was pretty hot out there. Shows what I know about California. That’s so cool she is learning to surf. At the beaches we go to, the best we can manage to do is boogie boarding, and I only got good at it this summer thanks to Olivia at the club. The lessons little Olivia gave me at the pool to help me hold my breath under water helped me turn a corner that’s been holding up my progress for years. This past summer was the first time in my life I could really get out there and swim underwater and even get wiped out by a wave and not lose control and inhale water. V is still having problem with that, though. Next summer Ella and Olivia will have to help her with that.
